We are pleased to announce that the Fifth European Convention on Turkic, Ottoman and Turkish Studies (Turkologentag 2025) will be held at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from 18–20 September 2025.
We are inviting proposals for papers and panels on all fields of Turkic, Ottoman and Turkish Studies, including but not limited to linguistics, Old Turkic studies, Ottoman history, literary studies, cultural studies, art history, musicology, studies on contemporary Turkey, Turkic peoples of Central Asia and the Caucasus, Islamic studies, studies on ethnic and religious minorities, women and gender studies, sociology, migration studies, social anthropology, digital humanities, language acquisition, language teaching, and multilingualism.
Conference languages are English, German, and Turkish.
Paper and panel proposals can be submitted between 15 August and 15 December 2024.
Abstracts should comprise around 250 words. You will be asked to provide between three and five keywords. Under the process of submission, you will have to affiliate your paper to one of several predefined topic categories.

All papers will be subject to a review process. The results will be announced by 31 March 2025.
Panel proposals: Please submit one abstract for each individual paper via the conference management platform. Panel chairs are asked to send a separate panel abstract (ca. 250 words) and a list of the participating papers with their authors as a Word document to turkologentag@uni-mainz.de. Please mention “Panel Proposal” in the topic field of the mail. The deadline is 15 December 2024.
